Pollution in the natural environment

In line with the European Commission’s Zero Pollution Action Plan, LIST works to reduce harmful emissions in the air, water, and soil, and to limit exposure among populations and ecosystems. To this end, we deploy advanced monitoring networks, predictive models, and non-animal risk assessment methods to better understand pollution trends and their impacts. We are also developing next-generation decontamination technologies to restore and sustainably protect natural environments.

In 2025, LIST once again demonstrated its ability to transform research into concrete solutions that benefit the country. This drive for innovation is reflected in the advances made in the field of health surveillance. The MicrObs platform is now capable of quantitatively detecting respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in wastewater, providing a valuable indicator for tracking the spread of a virus that particularly affects young children and the elderly. This capability strengthens LIST’s role in establishing effective epidemiological surveillance tools that complement traditional healthcare systems.

Finally, 2025 marks a major entrepreneurial success with the strategic fundraising round by Invitrolize, a LIST spin-off. This investment will accelerate the development and commercialization of ALIsens®, its innovative cellular model technology. This breakthrough confirms the value of research originating from LIST and its economic potential on an international scale.
